Do you need new tires? It can be hard to tell until you take a close look at them. When your tires get old and in need of replacing, you’ll notice issues or excessive tread wear. When problems arise, it’s time to head to your Chevy dealer.

You Have Almost No Tread Left

Your tread is what gives your tires traction on the road. Over time, this tread wears away, making your tires less able to grip the road surface. This also makes your tires less safe. You should never drive if your tread gets below 1/16 of an inch deep, and you need at least double that to stay safe when driving on wet roads.

Measure your tread depth regularly. A tread depth gauge will give you a precise measurement of how much tread you have left, but using a penny will also suffice. Turn the penny upside down and put it into the tread. You shouldn’t be able to see Lincoln’s entire head above the tread. If you can, then you’re in dire need of a new set of tires.

You See Cracks in Your Sidewall

Even if you still have enough tread, you need to replace your tires if they’ve become damaged. Having visible cracks in your sidewall tells you that your tires are damaged and could soon develop serious problems. Tires with visible cracks and cuts in the sidewall may be on the path to developing leaks. Cracks in the sidewall can also be a sign that the tire is just about ready to blow out. Head to the dealer if you can see visible cracks on any of the tires.

You See Blisters on Your Tire

The surface of your tire can weaken over time. When this happens, a bulge or blister may develop. This looks like a bump on your tires that you know shouldn’t be there and that isn’t on the rest of them. Having bulges on your tires is incredibly dangerous as they can blow out at any time, leading to a very dangerous situation for you. Get to the dealer ASAP for a new set of tires.

You Feel A Lot Of Vibration

You’ll always feel some vibration while driving, but over time you’ll learn to tell how much vibration is normal for your car on your regular routes. If you start noticing more vibration than usual on your regular routes, then it could be a sign that your tires need some attention.
