Spring is here in Sallisaw, OK, and locals know what that means: flowers in bloom, warm breezes, and bountiful spring activities for everyone to enjoy. So whether you’re looking for something to do on your own or with the whole family, the following events are sure to please.
1. Diamond Daze Half Marathon
What better way to start the season than by getting in shape? Come out to this half-marathon on Saturday, May 6 and meet up with old friends, plus make new ones. If running a half-marathon sounds a bit overwhelming, that’s okay. The course also includes a 1K and a 5K, so you can see if this is something that you’ll want to pursue.
Diamond Daze Half Marathon is a starter course that will gently guide you into running marathons in the future. Ask about upcoming events while you’re here: you can even get involved in a mud run! The event starts at 6 a.m. and goes until 11 p.m. Show up any time in between, or challenge yourself by running all day. The event is located at 2301 W. Ruth Ave. and admission is free.
2. Rhythm Coalition at Roosters
Come out and listen to some great funk, rock, and soul music by the band Rhythm Coalition as they play at Roosters once again. Sip on a cold beer or cocktail from the bar and relax with friends as you enjoy the live music from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Saturday, June 3. This five-member band hails from Fort Smith, Arkansas, and they love playing here at Roosters. Visit their Facebook page for a sample of their music.

3. Lake Tenkiller Owl Camp
Do you or someone you know have a child who is vision-impaired? This camp is intended for teens ages 14 to 17 who are either blind or have low vision. They’ll learn to waterski, fish, and engage in other water activities that they previously could not do. Guided by trained instructors, the teens will learn to accomplish goals they may have otherwise thought impossible.
