Located just a few miles north of the shores of the Robert S. Kerr Reservoir, the banks of the Arkansas River, and plenty of other bodies of water, the city of Sallisaw, OK is a fantastic base for water sports enthusiasts. If you are traveling around the region in your 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer, check out these three wonderful destinations and enjoy some time boating with your friends and family.

1. Tenkiller State Park

Sitting on the shores of the sixth-largest water reservoir in the entire state of Oklahoma, Tenkiller State Park is a popular spot among anglers, boaters, kayakers, and canoers from Sallisaw and other nearby towns. Managed by the Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department, this state park was founded in 1953 and features public boat ramps, swimming beaches, a nature center, playgrounds, and picnic facilities.

Tenkiller State Park covers an area of a little under 1,200 acres and is located about 25 miles northwest of the Sallisaw city center. Getting here takes about 35 minutes by car via routes US-64 and OK-82. Although this place can be easily visited on a day trip, camping facilities and fully equipped cabins are available in the park.

2. Sequoyah State Park

Sitting on a 2,200-acre peninsula on the eastern shores of Fort Gibson Lake, Sequoyah State Park features several public boat ramps, fishing spots, hiking trails, and other facilities that make it a wonderful destination for a day trip. Established in 1948 and welcoming over 275,000 visitors each year, this place is also a wildlife enthusiast’s paradise, providing habitat to several rehabilitated mammals and birds.

Sequoyah State Park is located a little under 70 miles northwest of the Sallisaw city center and can be reached in about one hour by car via routes I-40 and OK-351. Other popular activities in this place include golfing, biking, and kayaking. This public recreation area charges an $8 daily entry fee per vehicle for residents with Oklahoma license plates and $10 for out-of-state visitors.

3. Arrowhead State Park

Covering an area of about 2,200 acres, Arrowhead State Park is located on a peninsula of Eufaula Lake and offers picnic shelters, five public boat launches, a marina, a miniature golf course, swimming areas, and multi-use trails. Getting here from downtown Sallisaw takes a little over one hour by car, driving 70 miles southwest along routes I-40 and US-69.
