If you want to enjoy the best summer activities in Sallisaw, OK, look no further. We’ll be marking our calendar with these four great local ways to spend a day.

1. Disc Golf at Jay Reynolds Park

Sallisaw introduced this grass-terrain 18-hole disc golf course in 2015. More than 5,200 feet long, the Jay Reynolds Park course provides a challenging experience with eight holes longer than 300 feet. You can come to play with a group of friends or even reserve the course for a larger tournament.

The course is located at the corner of South Opdyke Street and East Iola Avenue in Sallisaw. It’s open seven days a week from dawn to dusk. Jay Reynolds Park also features a picnic pavilion, a walking trail, and a playground.

2. Diamond Daze Festival

This year, the annual Diamond Daze Festival is scheduled for June 1 in downtown Sallisaw. This fun community event includes carnival rides, games, vendors, live country music, and much more. You can watch or even compete in the festival’s Battle of the Bands, steak grilling contest, or 5K run. A car show, kids’ activities, and helicopter rides round out the offerings at this town-wide celebration.

3. Sequoyah National Wildlife Refuge

Spend the day at Sequoyah National Wildlife Refuge to take advantage of this natural area’s birding, boating, hiking, hunting, and fishing. You could catch a glimpse of a wide variety of species including puffin, bald eagles, armadillos, frogs, deer, songbirds, and more. If you’re interested in fishing, the park offers access to the Arkansas River which contains bluegill, various types of catfish and bass, crappie, sauger, and walleye.

The refuge is located about a 20-minute drive from Sallisaw at 107993 South 4520 Road in Vian. You can visit 365 days a year, but it’s especially beautiful here during the summer months.

4. Marval Camping Resort

This local campground is made for family fun, especially in the summer. You can park an RV, rent a tent site, or reserve a cabin if you want to stay the weekend, or just drive down for a day trip since it’s less than 30 minutes from Sallisaw.

The resort hosts a variety of fun summer events, including On the Farm Weekend, with farm-themed activities from June 2 to 4. Woodstock Weekend, held June 9 to 11, has a 70s theme from music to costumes. You’ll also find lots to do here during the Father’s Day Weekend and Independence Day celebrations. Marval Camping Resort is at 445140 East 1011 Road in Gore.
