Do you feel like you’ve been stuck in a rut lately? Are you tired of doing the same things every weekend and want to try something different? If so, read on to discover some of the most fun weekend activities you can drive to from Sallisaw, OK.

1. Exploring Sequoyah National Wildlife Refuge

If you’re unsure of what you want to do this weekend, we strongly recommend going to Sequoyah National Wildlife Refuge at 107993 S 4520 Rd. What we love about this wildlife refuge is the wide variety of activities you can enjoy here. We often see dog walkers, photographers, and hikers enjoying the 2,100 miles of boardwalks and trails.

If it is a bit dreary outside, you can still enjoy this wildlife refuge. You can take your family on an auto tour from the comfort of your 2023 Chevy Equinox. Your family may find that they can see more wildlife from the car than they could on foot or by bike. Boating is another popular activity that you can enjoy here. However, some areas within this national wildlife refuge do not allow motorboats.

2. Fishing at Janet Huckabee Arkansas River Valley Nature Center

You can also enjoy a fun-filled day waiting with bated breath for a bite on the bait in Wells Lake. This beautiful lake is one of the most popular attractions at Janet Huckabee Arkansas River Valley Nature Center at 8300 Wells Lake Rd. There are many fish you can catch in this lake, including:

  • Largemouth bass
  • Channel catfish
  • Redear sunfish
  • Bluegill
  • Rainbow trout

If you don’t feel like fishing, you can still spend an enjoyable day here. Hiking is another popular activity that you can enjoy. There are 3.35 miles of trails that you can explore, including the 0.25-mile Beaver Creek Trail. You should keep your eyes peeled if you walk down this boardwalk. You can see beavers and beautiful rose mallow along the bank of the braided stream.

3. Camping at Brushy Lake Park

If you feel like you need to go on a weekend getaway, but you don’t want to pay for a night or two in a hotel, we highly recommend camping at Brushy Lake Park at Highway 17 Rt 3. For just $15 to $20 per night, you can choose from one of nearly two dozen campsites. Other popular activities here include fishing and boating.
